Acupuncture

acupuncture_threpAcupuncture, a complex branch of Chinese medicine, Acupuncture refers specifically to the gentle insertion of extremely thin, sterile stainless steel needles into certain specific points on the body for the purpose of re-establishing metabolic harmony and balance. The principle focus of acupuncture is to activate the body’s ability to heal itself naturally.

At Acupuncture My Way we only use sterilized and disposable needles of the highest quality are used, to guarantee the safety and comfort of every patient.. Acupuncture needles are 25-50 times thinner than a regular hypodermic needle, providing the patient with a virtually painless treatment.

Acupuncture is now recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in the treatment of a wide variety of disorders. In 1997, the National Institutes of Health released a consensus statement on acupuncture which confirmed that “there is sufficient evidence of acupuncture's value to expand its use into conventional medicine.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

medicineChinese herbal medicine is considered one of the more important branches of traditional Oriental medicine. The theory and practice of Chinese herbal medicine has developed over thousands of years and today that knowledge is combined with the latest pharmacological and clinical research. The medicinal herbs included in this ancient healing system consist of plants, animal products, and minerals.

Although there are thousands of documented Chinese herbs, several hundred of those are most commonly used today. A large majority of Chinese herbs are derived from parts of plants (leaves, seeds, bark, roots, etc). Examples include ginger, cinnamon, ginseng, turmeric, and tangerine peel. Some Chinese herbs are derived from animals, such as deer antler or oyster shell and other herbs are minerals found in nature, such as gypsum or talcum. Chinese herbs are often used in conjunction with acupuncture. Chinese herbs are a powerful adjunct to acupuncture treatment and can help promote healing between acupuncture treatments. Being the oldest method of medication in the world, natural herbal medicine is prescribed at Acupuncture My Way to fit each individual need. Using only the highest quality ingredients, the clinic provides its patients with a wide variety of natural healing herbs to treat diseases and maintain health.

Cupping

coupingCupping is a method where the oxygen inside special therapeutic cups is burned creating a vacuum suction used to treat conditions such as back/shoulder pain, the common cold, influenza and others. In the cupping therapy process small, glass cups are adhered to the patient’s skin. The cup may then be moved over an area or simply left in place for a few minutes. In this way, acupuncture points are stimulated through suction. Cupping is designed to increase circulation and also relieve muscle tension and tightness. Many of our clients report that the sensation of cupping feels similar to receiving deep tissue massage. Cupping may cause the skin to temporarily turn red.

Moxibustion

moxibustionMoxibustion is a process by which a Chinese herb, mugwort, is burned near the skin in order to warm acupuncture points. There are two types of Moxibustion techniques that are selected for specific conditions. With Moxibustion sticks, we light up the stick of mugwort and holds it close to the acupuncture needle to apply heat. Moxibustion rolls are placed on the acupuncture needles and are burned to apply heat directly to the needles Moxibustion is especially appropriate for certain types of disorders and certain types of individuals, in particular painful conditions such as muscle pain and arthritis and for balancing individuals who require more warming (Yang) energy.
